POST:                          Classroom Assistant Special Needs Appointment

                       

LOCATION:                 

 

RATE OF PAY:              Hourly Age 21 + for Qualified or Recognised Status

 

                                    A special child allowance is also payable.

                                               

Where the weekly hours are less than 32.5 the special child allowance will be pro-rata to the hours worked.

 

RESPONSIBLE TO:       The Principal

 

REPORTING TO:           The Designated Teacher

 

CRITERIA:                    Applicants must have a full certificate approved for Qualified or Recognised status. Preference may be given to applicants who have a minimum of 6 months experience of working with children with special needs. The criteria may be enhanced. Flexible working arrangements available during school holidays. 

 

WEEKLY HOURS:         hours per week as agreed for your place of work and subject to the needs of the pupil.

JOB PURPOSE:            To provide assistance as required to the classroom teacher(s) in the care and supervision of pupil(s) with special needs requirements.

 

 

MAIN DUTIES:

The person appointed will be required to carry out a range of duties which may include any or all of the following:

 

1.                   Assist the class teacher to develop pupils’ self help skills in the areas of feeding, toileting hygiene, dressing etc.

 

2.                   Assist the class teacher with physical activities such as physical education, swimming, horse riding, playground play etc.

 

3.                   Assist with operational difficulties pertaining to pupils’ disabilities.

 

4.                   Dressing, undressing, toileting and hand washing.

 

5.                   Set up and/or prepare classroom and teaching aids as directed by the class teacher.

 

6.                   Supervise individual, group and class activities as directed by the class teacher.

 

7.                   Act in a supporting role in behavioural management programmes as directed by the class teacher.

 

8.                   Take responsibility for the care and hygiene of class and pupils’ personal equipment.

 

9.                   Carry out such other duties at a similar level of responsibility as are assigned by the principal or class teacher.
