Belvoir Groundwork NI has released the findings of its recent ‘Re-Imaging' survey, as returned by residents of the Milltown area.

The results show that of 79 questionnaires returned, 75 indicated they would like to see some form of entrance feature to the area.

A few of the other main findings include:

  • 66 respondents thought there should be no linkage with Belvoir or Newtownbreda, citing the difference in the unique character and identity of Milltown;
  • 67 thought that an entrance feature theme should refer to a ‘ Welcome to Milltown' sign, with 24 stating that a stone wall should form part of this;
  • 50 said they “did not know” what the current flags flying at the entrance to Milltown represented;
  • 57 said they would like to see these flags removed if a new entrance feature was installed on this site, while 12 would like them to stay;
  • 59 stated that they would like to see the site of the annual Eleventh Night bonfire levelled and some sort of artistic planters situated there from August to May, thus making the entrance to Milltown more welcoming. The bonfire could still take place as usual on a levelled site. Only four respondents were opposed to this idea;
  • 59 were in favour of removing all red, white and blue painting from kerbstones in Belvoir and Milltown, with only seven opposed to this.
